2013 gmc yukon xl review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Xl means extra large. introductionthe gmc yukon xl is a great choice for towing cars, boats, horses, and travel trailers when enclosed space is needed for passengers or cargo. Yukon xl is offered in 1500 and 2500 versions. maximum towing capacity ranges from 7800-8100 pounds for a yukon xl 1500 model, and about 9500 pounds on a yukon xl 2500. (subtract 1500-2500 pounds if the yukon is fully loaded with people and cargo.) with its long wheelbase and full-size truck construction, the yukon xl is a stable platform for towing while offering the interior cargo advantages and three-row seating of a full-size suv. yukon xl is gmc's version of the chevrolet suburban. As the xl suggests, the yukon xl is extra-long, 20 inches longer than the standard-length yukon. Like the suburban, the yukon xl seats seven to nine people, depending on configuration. While many vehicles will seat seven, few have so much room left over for cargo (three sedan trunks of space). yukon xl denali is a luxurious model that compares well to the cadillac escalade esv. Denali comes equipped with a larger engine and automatic rear load-leveling (both shared with the escalade). inside is a comfortable cabin. We found the optional leather seats comfortable. The driver sits way up high for a commanding view of the road, and the pedals power-adjust to fit short and tall drivers. The instruments and gauges are among best in class, elegantly clean yet very functional. Interior small items storage is intelligently designed and all over, including a huge center console. second-row passengers will find a lot of leg room in the yukon xl. Heated bucket seats with a center console between them are available for the second row, turning them into first-class accommodations; and there is a power folding option, making it easier for third-row passengers to climb by. Gm's 5. 3-liter vortec v8 is the standard choice and makes 320 horsepower and 335 pound-feet of torque. We enjoyed its smooth power. The 5. 3-liter gets an epa-estimated 15/21 miles per gallon city/highway, with 2wd or 4wd. Flex-fuel versions of the 5. 3-liter v8 are available that can run on e85 ethanol, though use of less-efficient ethanol drops fuel economy significantly. yukon xl denali boasts a 403-hp 6. 2-liter v8. Denali is offered with two-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, the latter an excellent aid for inclement weather but not designed for serious off-road use. Denali comes standard with the autoride active electronic suspension, which is optional on the regular yukon xl. Denali models get an epa-rated 14/18 mpg with 2wd and 13/18 with awd. Note that epa ratings vary considerably, see www. Gov for comparison shopping. yukon xl 2500 models come with a 6. 0-liter iron-block v8 rated at 352 hp, 382 lb-ft of torque, epa 10/16 and 10/15 mpg, with 2wd and 4wd, respectively. Yukon xl 2500 is designed for heavy use, as are all of its mechanical components. yukon xl and denali models use a 6-speed automatic transmission. They all have a tow/haul mode that reduces upshifting and downshifting, and also shifts quicker, so the transmission doesn't work so hard when pulling a big load. Transmission oil temperature is part of the instrumentation on most models. convenience features include a power rear liftgate, a new 10-speaker bose surround-sound system, a navigation system, and a dvd rear-seat entertainment system. Rearview cameras are standard with navigation and available for others with display in inside mirror. the current-generation gmc yukon xl dates from 2007, but it has been improved and refined since then. A champagne paint and automatic grade braking are new for 2013. yukon xl competes with ford expedition el, suburban, and, if cargo space isn't as critical, toyota sequoia and infiniti qx56. Yukon xl denali alternatives include the lincoln navigator l, cadillac escalade esv, and mercedes-benz gl-class. lineupthe 2013 gmc yukon xl 1500 comes in sle, slt and denali trim levels. Options include a convenience package 1060) with adjustable pedals, remote start, rear park assist, rearview camera; integrated trailer brake controller 200); z71 off-road package 560); two-speed transfer case 100); 20-inch wheel packages; rear-seat entertainment 1295); and towing package 330). yukon xl slt models add leather upholstery with heat for the front row, auto-dimming inside mirror, rear park assist, remote start, adjustable pedals, and universal remote. Options are limited. The denali's own sun, entertainment and destination package 2535) bundles a power sunroof with rear-seat entertainment and other equipment. Options include rear park assist and two rearview camera choices. walkaroundthe gmc yukon xl is the extra-long version, about 20 inches longer than a yukon. It's the twin to the chevy suburban, where the yukon plays twin to the tahoe. the suburban and yukon xl share sheetmetal body panels but differ in details such as the grille, bumpers and lamps. These are big boxes but quite smooth, rather like an ocean liner's long flat sides and tapered ends. The denali xl adds some of the upscale cues found on the cadillac escalade esv, which shares the same platform. the running board/side steps are integrated and unobtrusive, extending no farther than necessary, with a black grippy coating; powered retractable steps are available on some models. The tinted glass behind the c-pillar is expansive, and adds to both appearance and function. The front end has a clean appearance, with block-like headlamps over a front bumper fascia. Doors close with a reassuring thud. wheels change visual perceptions of the yukon xl. The standard aluminum wheel is a nice piece for look and function. Dealers offer a host of dress-up items, including wheels up to 22-inches. The standard 17-inch wheels offer the best ride quality due to tires with tall sidewalls. Ride quality gets harsher as wheel diameters increase. the rear window opens separately, which is convenient for loading lighter bags and cargo. The larger liftgate is aluminum and balanced, upgradeable to power for those accustomed to a push-button world. Roof racks can carry unwieldy items that aren't too heavy, but be sure to load with the hatch open or af.

2010 gmc terrain review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All-new crossover suv easy to like. introductionthe gmc terrain is new nameplate, a midsize crossover suv that shares its basic structure with the chevy equinox. Terrain seats five and its cabin is roomy and substantial, with enough rear-seat legroom and interior volume for comfort on long trips. gm says terrain competes with compact suvs such as the honda cr-v and midsize sport-utilities such as the ford edge and nissan murano. As with these other crossover suvs, terrain uses front-wheel drive and carlike unit-body construction. This engine is rated at 182 horsepower and 172 pound-feet of torque. A 3. 0-liter v6 is optional rated at 264 hp and 222 lb-ft of torque and 17/25 mpg. The v6 is rated to tow up to 3500 pounds, enough for two personal watercraft, two snowmobiles, or a light boat. all-wheel drive is available for all-weather capability. All models come with a six-speed automatic transmission. we found the interior of the gmc terrain comfortable and quiet, well isolated from the noise and chop of the roadway. All safety features are standard throughout the terrain lineup, including six air bags, abs, and rearview cameras. lineupgmc terrain comes in sle 24,995) and slt 27,750) trim levels. Terrain sle awd 26,000) and terrain slt awd 29,500) feature all-wheel drive. Gmc is strictly a truck company, so the terrain has bolder styling with a larger, more distinctive grille. the gmc body makes use of broad, sheer surfaces with rectangular shapes in the wheelwells. The side surfaces are clean, with chrome accents on the door handles and windows. Along the bottom of the exterior panels is a textured anti-chip layer of paint, conveying the message that the terrain could be functional in harsher environments, both urban and rural. A sleek roof rack provides additional cargo capacity. especially when viewed from the front, the terrain's wide stance and high beltline make for a substantial, well-planted impression. Although technically a compact, the terrain looks much bigger. three wheel sizes and styles are available, including 17- and 18-inch aluminum wheels, and 19-inch chrome clad wheels. interiorthe interior design features curving lines and close-fitting panels with nicely grained textures. The environment inside the terrain is open and relaxed. We were told that the interior team worked extensively to optimize the accelerator pedal heal position, so that the driving position could be close to ideal for a wider range of body types. There was special attention paid to accommodating shorter drivers. the controls and dash are low and lean away from the front occupants, an effect that creates a generously open, spacious feeling. The dash and controls are lighted in orange, with bright white instrument numerals. The interior lighting scheme is extensively developed, creating a well-lit, but not overly bright, nighttime environment. a floating center stack, positioned so that the most-used controls are within easy reach, houses a center storage bin big enough for a laptop computer. The navigation screen is seven inches in size, with touch-screen design. A 10-gigabyte hard drive enables storage of a substantial number of music files. the rear seat is designed with emphasis on flexible operation. It reclines and slides forward eight inches to favor either cargo room or passenger room, as the situation dictates. The optional rear-seat entertainment system has two independently operable screens, capable of providing separate amusements for two back seat occupants. The terrain seats five, and it is not available with a third-row seat. The larger gmc acadia is better for families who might need to seat seven or eight. a rearview camera is standard in all models, a great safety feature as it can help the driver spot a child behind the vehicle when backing up. onstar and xm are pre-paid for one year. The drive included a mix of interstate highway, local-two lane highways, some congested small-town main-street settings and some packed dirt roadways. the 3. 0-liter v6 is an advanced, direct-injection engine that revs smoothly and willingly. The same engine is also used in the buick lacrosse, but this is a higher-output version that has more aggressive induction and exhaust turning. The 3. 0-liter v6 is rated at 264 hp and 222 lb-ft of torque and 17/25 mpg. The v6 is rated to tow up to 3500 pounds. for an engine that supplies peak torque fairly high in the rev range, the v6 pulls from low rpm smoothly and well, capably powering the nearly 4000-pound terrain around town in a satisfying, low-effort manner. it's the six-speed transmission that makes the engine ideal, with a gear for every situation and intelligent programming that can sense the difference between subtle variations of throttle input. Sixth gear is a very tall overdrive, so the terrain cruises at highway speeds easily and quietly, loafing along at 1500 rpm at 60 mph, and 1800 at 75 mph. And yet, the transmission and v6 allow the terrain to respond well to demand for power on on-ramps and highway passing. Ask it to pass and it downshifts twice in quick succession, but with very little shift shock, and the tach shows 4500 rpm on the way to a 6950-rpm redline. Upon full throttle, there is a rush of available power, but not excessive noise. Gmc engineers have used acoustic blankets between the engine and dash to reduce engine noise, and acoustic laminated glass to deflect wind noise. The doors are triple-sealed for further quieting and efficient climate control. the terrain feels substantial around town, but reasonably agile, with a progressive turn-in and minimal body roll at normal speeds. The chassis is clearly set up to deliver a smooth, isolated ride on straight, fast and sometimes potholed midwestern roads. Relatively little vibration leaks through into the steering wheel or other touch points. The suspension is on the soft side, but handling around town and on more demanding roads is not hugely affected by body roll or brake dive. Hydraulic bushings were used to tune the chassis. Cornering is quite predictable and secure, enhanced by a relatively wide stance. Towing capacity is reduced to 1500 pounds, but overall driveability is comparable. The six-speed hydra-matic behind the 2. 4-liter has slightly lower gearing, but it shifts just as smoothly and follows throttle input just as well.
